Underrated teams  are winning often enough make April a decent month for underdog players. The breakdown, @$1 per game put at risk, is:

Usually in April a few teams win even though they are not expected to perform well all year, and a few clubs, expected to win, lose enough to cost their backers money. Even the overall best teams have bad streaks, and if the only losing streak all season happens in April, it can take its toll on the inflexible bettor.

In the early going, we recommend looking for totals plays - at least in the first few days of the season. Teams with good pitching and poor hitting will play unders, and clubs scoring runs with poor pitching will go over the number. Obviously you avoid many of those games, but every April there are a number of good totals opportunities early in the season. Overall, the totals records 2005-2007 break down like this:

AL Overs-Unders:

So unders are ahead in the AL these days, about 52% day or night, with the NL almost a 50-50 split.

Over the last three seasons the best team as a home favorite in April

The best home underdog team has been the Los Angeles Angels at 22-10 +$5.03.

Worst home fav was Philadelphia.

The Orioles, White Sox, Blue Jays and Diamondbacks were good as away favs, while the Yankees and Astros were poor-performing road favorites.
